Who we are
Ceiling Radar, Flightstrip and the Callsign Home app are made by Red Maverick Pty Ltd ("we", "us"), based in Perth, Western Australia. In this policy, "devices" means the Ceiling Radar projector and the Flightstrip display, and "the app" means Callsign Home.

The short version
- There are no user accounts — we never ask for your name, email address or a password to use your device.
- Your device sends us technical health information so we can keep it running and support you.
- It also sends us the area of sky you choose to watch, because that is what it searches.
- We do not show ads, run ad networks, or sell, rent or trade your information.
- This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
What the devices collect
Your device checks in with our servers periodically — roughly every few minutes for Ceiling Radar — so that we can tell it is healthy and deliver updates and settings. Each check-in includes:
- A device identifier — a random identifier generated on the device itself. It is not derived from you and is not linked to your name or any account.
- Software version, uptime, boot time and update status.
- Hardware health — processor temperature, memory availability, system load and, for Flightstrip, Wi-Fi signal strength, restart counts and the reason for the last restart.
- Network information on your local network — the device's own local hostname and its private local IP address (for example 192.168.x.x). We also see the public IP address your connection uses, as any internet server does.
- Service status — which flight-data source is in use, whether data is arriving, how old the last good data is, and any error messages.
- Diagnostic events — things like a failed time sync or a recovered fault, used to spot problems across devices.
Location
To show the aircraft above you, your device has to know where "above you" is. When you set your scan area in the app, the coordinates of the pin you drop and the radius you choose are stored on the device and on our servers, along with a place name.
That pin is typically at or near your home, so we treat it as personal information and handle it accordingly. You choose it, you can move it at any time in the app, and you can deliberately set it to a nearby landmark rather than your exact address if you prefer — the products work perfectly well that way. We do not track your phone's location, and the app does not follow you around.
The app
The Callsign Home app stores the credentials that link your phone to your devices in your phone's secure storage. If you send us a diagnostic report from the app, it includes the device information described above plus recent app logs. Your Wi-Fi password is passed to your device during setup over an encrypted connection; we do not store it on our servers.
What we do not collect
- No accounts, names, passwords or dates of birth.
- No advertising identifiers, and no advertising or marketing trackers in the app or on this website.
- No contacts, photos, microphone or camera access beyond using your camera to scan a setup code — those images are processed on your phone and never sent to us.
- No continuous location tracking of you or your phone.
- No payment card details. If and when subscriptions launch, Apple and Google process payment; we never see your card.
How we use it
We use the information above only to:
- make your device work — find the aircraft in your chosen area and describe them;
- deliver software updates and settings to your device;
- diagnose faults, investigate support requests you raise, and spot problems affecting many devices;
- understand aggregate load on our service so we can size it correctly.
We do not use it to profile you or to target advertising. We never have.
Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We share limited information with:
- Flight-data providers. Community aircraft-tracking networks and commercial flight-data services. Your device requests aircraft near a set of coordinates, and our servers look up flight details by aircraft identifier. Your name is not attached to these requests, because we do not have it. Note that a positional query necessarily discloses an approximate area of interest to the network being queried.
- Apple and Google. If you buy a subscription, the purchase is handled entirely in the App Store or Google Play under their own privacy policies. They tell us only whether an entitlement is valid.
- Our hosting and infrastructure providers, who store and process data on our behalf under contract.
- Where the law requires it — for example a valid legal request — or to protect our rights or someone's safety.
Where it is stored
Our servers are hosted in Australia. Some third parties we rely on — including flight-data providers, Apple and Google — operate overseas, so limited information may be processed outside Australia by those parties under their own terms.
How long we keep it
We keep device check-in and diagnostic data only as long as it is useful for running and supporting the service, and then delete it. Our current practice is to retain routine device telemetry and server logs for up to 12 months, and support correspondence for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up. Your scan area is kept for as long as your device is set up, and is removed when the device is reset or retired.
Specific retention periods are being finalised as part of the review of this draft.
Security
Traffic between the app, your devices and our servers is encrypted in transit. Software updates are cryptographically signed and verified by the device before installation, and a failed update rolls back automatically. We limit access to our systems to the people who need it.
No system is perfectly secure, and our products are in beta. If you find a security issue, please tell us at [email protected] and we will take it seriously.
Children
Our products are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Because there are no accounts, we will usually need your device identifier — shown on the device card in the app — to find your records. Email [email protected] and we will respond within a reasonable time, normally 30 days.
You can stop all collection at any time by resetting your device and unplugging it.
Australian privacy law
We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Some small businesses are exempt from the Privacy Act; whether or not the exemption applies to us, we have chosen to follow the Australian Privacy Principles.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. If you are still not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change, and we will move the "last updated" date above. Because this is a draft published during beta, expect it to change.
